Quality you can see and smell
In this category there are three products differing only in particle size. The source material is all from fir or pine. These products are graded both for minimum and maximum particle size in each category. Each of the materials provides all of the benefits discussed under mulching materials. For obvious reasons, the small grade is more commonly employed for use in walkways. The larger grades are sometimes preferred for areas of high velocity wind since they are less apt to blow. The larger grades are particularly desirable around swimming pools or other areas where transport of the mulch by wind or other physical means could constitute a nuisance. A frequently observed bonus benefit is the fragrance of the deep woods that emanates from these barks.
(1/4” - 3/4“) Small Size This fine granular bark, free of foreign material, is colorful and fragrant. Also a good mulch, Pathway Decorative Bark is most useful in smaller areas where you’ll find it effective in helping to smother weeds. |
|
(1/2” - 1 1/2”) Medium Size This medium granular bark provides mulch along with its visually appealing texture. Resistant to wind and water movement, Medium Decorative Bark absorbs heat, reduces evaporation and dust, and eliminates glare. A deep red brown color, it’s attractive in almost any setting. |

(1 1/2” - 2 1/2”) Large Size This large granular bark is particularly effective in high wind areas - it stays put under almost any condition. Its distinctive texture and forest fragrance is ideal for large areas, particularly where the rich color contrasts so attractively with green plants. It’s heat absorbent and amazingly long lasting. |
SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
SMALL: The mulch shall be derived from the bark of fir or pine and shall be granular in structure, with the majority falling in the range of 1/4" to 3/4" in diameter. (This material is commonly employed for miscellaneous mulching, particularly of beds containing small plants or beds of limited size. Suggested minimum rate - 3 cubic yards per 1,000 sq. ft.)
MEDIUM: The mulch shall be derived from the bark of fir or pine and shall be granular in structure, with the majority of the particles falling between 1/2" and 1 1/2" in diameter. (This product is suggested for medium to large size bed areas under shrubs of medium size. A minimum rate for good coverage is 5 cubic yards per 1,000 sq. ft.)
LARGE: The mulch shall be derived from the bark of fir or pine and shall be granular or chunky in nature, with most particles falling between 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" in diameter. (Provides outstanding texture in large areas. Minimum rate 6 cubic yards per 1,000 sq. ft.)
